From the museum's inception our staff has been tireless in documenting the progress and results of archaeological investigation, museum objects, and the procedures involved in processing this material, the condition of our monuments and monument complexes, and recording other museum activities like exhibitions and publications.
The Documentation Department systematically creates, collects, organises, and maintains documentation on museum materials and activities. The department maintains an inventory and digitises our Collection of Prints and our Collection of Postcards and our secondary documentation collections; the collection of filmstrips and photographic slides, documentation on the museum's founding and history, documentation drawings, general documents, the image archive, the archive of photographic negatives, the media archive, exhibition records, publishing activity records, field report records, records of specialist and research work, event records, the archive of maps and plans, and the specialist archive.

Digitisation of our documentation was launched in 2006 and aims to simplify its use. The wealth of museum documentation is primarily used by the institution's specialist staff for specialist and scientific study of specific topics, and in developing presentations and publications. The secondary documentation fund is also available to outside users.
