Colourful Porch 6

“Colourful Portico: Mosaic” brings together creative works by pupils from as many as 19 primary and secondary schools across Croatia, for the sixth consecutive year.

This year’s theme connects directly to the rich ancient heritage of Pula, in which mosaics represented an indispensable status symbol of every affluent Roman domus. But rather than merely observing history from a distance, the project conceived by Dr Milena Joksimović under the curatorial guidance of Dr Dunja Martić Štefan encourages pupils to reinterpret that same heritage through their own modern visual language. The project’s name draws its roots from the ancient Stoa Poikile, the legendary meeting place of art and philosophy, and this contemporary “portico” builds a bridge between historical heritage and the creative potential of new generations.

The aim of “Colourful Portico” is to connect history and education; the project’s digital visibility is also ensured through the eponymous YouTube channel, which takes pupils’ creative work far beyond the walls of the gallery. We invite media representatives to cover this opening and capture the moment when the millennial tradition of Roman craftsmen takes on a completely new face through the eyes of the youngest creators.
