The touring exhibition of Trakošćan Castle “Trakošćan – Three Foundations of Power” has opened at the Sacred Hearts Gallery in Pula, bringing the history of Trakošćan, the Drašković family and the Croatian nobility closer to the public through three interconnected sections.
The exhibition marks the first collaboration between the Archaeological Museum of Istria and Trakošćan Castle. At the opening, the Director of the Archaeological Museum of Istria, Darko Komšo, underlined the importance of connecting museum institutions in preserving and presenting cultural heritage and bringing it closer to the public. The Director of Trakošćan Castle, Dr Goranka Horjan, thanked Director Darko Komšo as well as the teams of the Archaeological Museum of Istria and Trakošćan Castle for their cooperation and support in bringing the exhibition to life.
Across the three exhibition sections, visitors can follow the development of Trakošćan over almost seven centuries, learn about the military world and the career of Count Josip Kazimir Drašković, and discover how important noble marriages and family ties were for acquiring property, social standing and political influence. By connecting objects with a range of historical sources, the exhibition offers a broader view of the society and the values of the age in which the Drašković family built its power and left its mark on the history of Trakošćan.
Those gathered at the opening were also welcomed by Paola Orlić, Head of the Administrative Department for Culture and Civil Society of the City of Pula, and Vladimir Torbica, Head of the Administrative Department for Culture and Local Heritage Education of the Region of Istria, who officially declared the exhibition open.
The exhibition was created by Andreja Srednoselec, curator and Head of the Department of Professional Museum Affairs at Trakošćan Castle, and Ivan Mravlinčić, senior curator of the Department of General Affairs at Trakošćan Castle, while the exhibition coordinator is Roberta Tomičić, MA in Art History.
The exhibition “Trakošćan – Three Foundations of Power” remains open at the Sacred Hearts Gallery until 29 November 2026.
