International UNESCO-UNITWIN Conference Held in Pula

From 11 to 15 May 2026, an international UNESCO-UNITWIN conference was held in Pula, organised by the City of Pula, Juraj Dobrila University and the Archaeological Museum of Istria, under the patronage of the Pula Tourist Board.

The conference programme took place at several locations of the partner institutions, bringing together domestic and international experts with the aim of reflecting on the sustainable management of cultural heritage, the protection of historical sites and the development of contemporary models for their presentation and interpretation.

As one of the organisers, the Archaeological Museum of Istria continuously works on the preservation, research and interpretation of the cultural heritage of Pula and Istria, with particular emphasis on the protection and sustainable management of the Pula Amphitheatre and other monuments of exceptional historical value.

During the conference, special attention was given to the possibilities of improving the management of Pula's historical landscape and to the exchange of international experiences related to the preservation and valorisation of cultural heritage. Participants also discussed the potential of future UNESCO nominations and the importance of linking heritage protection with the needs of contemporary society and the cultural life of the city.

The conference once again confirmed the importance of international cooperation in the preservation of cultural heritage and in the development of sustainable models for the management of historical sites.
