The gallery space was created during major reconstruction works on the amphitheater from 1984 to 1986, when the underground radial foundations of the amphitheater's interior were explored and cleared of earth, creating new usable spaces. Therefore, the shape of the gallery is unusual; it is elongated and on several different levels, but its charm lies precisely in the fact that it is part of a monumental ancient structure.

The space is used for presenting a variety of exhibitions - from archaeological materials to contemporary works of art - thus connecting the ancient heritage of Pula with modern cultural and educational content. The exhibitions held here cover a wide range of topics: from prehistoric findings, through the Roman period, to modern art. It also serves an educational purpose and often hosts exhibitions created in collaboration with schools, as well as exhibitions of works by members of associations for people with disabilities, with themes related to the amphitheater and the Pula Film Festival.
