In addition to conducting archaeological research, professional processing, collecting, preserving, and exhibiting museum materials, the task of the Archaeological Museum of Istria in Pula (hereinafter: the Museum) is also to publish them. For this very reason, the Museum has paid special attention to its publishing activities.
The earliest beginnings of publishing since the reopening of the museum under the name Archaeological Museum of Istria in 1947 date back to 1957, with the launch of the multilingual monograph series Cultural-Historical Monuments of Istria, which presents the cultural heritage and the oldest monuments of Pula and its surroundings in a popular-science manner.
The journal Histria archaeologica has been published periodically since 1970. The articles are thematically related to archaeology, history, and art from the Istrian region. It is regularly published on the Portal of Croatian scientific and professional journals HrĨak: https://hrcak.srce.hr/histriaarchaeologica
The series Catalogues of the Archaeological Museum of Istria has regularly accompanied every temporary exhibition of the Archaeological Museum of Istria since 1979.
The series Monographs and Catalogues of the Archaeological Museum of Istria has been published since 1985 and is conceived as a monographic and thematic companion to large-format exhibitions.
The series Catalogues of the Pedagogical Service (renamed Catalogues of the Educational Department from number 10), has accompanied the workshops and exhibitions of the Educational Department of the Archaeological Museum of Istria since 2005.
Since 2017, the Exhibition Catalogues series has been conceived as a marketing and promotional program aimed at briefly presenting selected items from the Museum's collection three times a year through an exhibition in the window of the C4 space, accompanied by a catalogue and popularly called A Window to the Past.
The Museum's printed publications are also used for exchange and the continuous development of the museum library's collection, with 335 addresses in the country and abroad.
The Museum is also a co-publisher in numerous projects with various institutes and other museums.
