Through the application of a unified approach, core activities encompass professional oversight of museum operations (acquisition and processing of museum holdings, their preservation, protection and exhibition, as well as documentation management), enhancement and harmonization of professional work and development of museums, and expert advisory assistance.
Within the Museum System of the Republic of Croatia, where core activities are carried out as a form of professional engagement, museums are included whose founders are the Republic of Croatia, as well as units of local and regional (subnational) self-government.
The Archaeological Museum of Istria serves as a second-level core museum for archaeological collections and holdings in the area of Istria County and Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
